A Case of Hereditary Multiple Exostosis

Abstract
A case of hereditary multiple exostosis with synostosis of proximal end of the tibia and fibula is presented.
The 23 years old Korean male was admitted to this orthopedic surgery on 1st. May 1972¢¥, complained irregular multiple bony protrusions around the both knee joints and left shoulder joint with tenderness and painful limited motion of the joints.
About 5 years prior to admission, thumb sized bony mass were developed on medial aspect of the end of the both tibias without any symptoms and then those were progressively grown, thereafter walking disturbance due to pain and limited motion of the left shoulder and knee joints were developed. The, roentgenological study revealed multiple fork-like bony protrusions on both distal femur, proximal end of the tibias and fibula, left scapula and clavicle, associated with thin cortices and soft tissue swelling. The biopsy was showed a hard grayish-white colored mass which was covered by cartilagenous cap on cartilagenous portion in microscopically, all cartilagenous ossification and bony trabeculae under ahyaline cartilage cap in microscopically.
